The /sci/ Hyperloop team, named sci-x, consist of many members divided into three main Workgroups, with the Workgroups having multiple subgroups. Each team member can be a part of several subgroups, and need not limit him or herself to a single Workgroup.
Each Workgroup has a Lead member, who oversees the work of his or her Workgroup. A Design Lead member oversees the entire project, and works in close tandem with the Workgroup Leads. The Design Lead is member Doober.
Workgroups
In the team there are three distinct Workgroups, each having their own specific responsibilities and topics to cover.
Hardware
The Hardware Workgroup handles everything directly related to the physical design of the pod. This includes pod design and aerodynamical considerations, onboard power and power electronics, propulsion, suspension, compressor system, and more. The Hardware Lead is member JoshuaS.
Software
The Software Workgroup handles those aspects of the pod related to IT. This includes the controls system, guidance system, communications, etc. The Software Lead is member TehAbsMan.
Systems Management
The Systems Management Workgroup handles pod safety. This means redundancy, safety systems, passenger comfort, and overseeing that other Workgroups takes safety into account. The SysMan Lead is member Pinks.
Subgroups
In each Workgroup, there are Subgroups. The subgroups each focus on specific aspects of the pod design, and have the authority when it comes to their topic. Naturally, some subgroups will have to work closely together, even across Workgroups. Especially SysMan subgroups will need to be in close communication with nearly all other subgroups where safety is key. Examples are controls system, communications, onboard power, interior, etc. The subgroups are as follows (and are subject to change):
Hardware
- Aerodynamics and Capsule Design
- Power
- Compressor
- Propulsion
- Skis and Suspension
- Controls HW (Lead)
- Comms HW (Secondary)
Software
- Controls SW (Secondary)
- Comms SW (Lead)
- IT
